| TEACHERS Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten: Stephanie Chadburn - Stephanie is entering her fourth year of teaching in Monroe. She graduated from Johnson State College with a BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in psychology. Stephanie currently lives in Lyndonville, Vermont with her husband and two daughters, Haley and Alaina. She enjoys reading, hiking, swimming, and spending time with her family. She started as a long-term 2nd/3rd grade substitute, and has since taught kindergarten, first grade, K-1-2, and 1-2. Leah graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, MA with a degree in Human Development and an Elementary Education concentration. In 2005, she went back to Wheelock for her Master's in Early Childhood Care and Education, and simultaneously launched a new preschool program in Monroe. Leah loves live music, cooking, going to the beach and playing with her new puppy, Indy. Leah will also be our School Reform Coordinator to ensure that our professional development efforts are supported on a peer level. She is very excited about this position and we are grateful for the grant that is funding it! Second Grade:
Laura Tobin - Laura Tobin is pleased to be returning to the Monroe School for her third year. Laura hails from Connecticut, where she completed her undergraduate and graduate work at UCONN (Go Huskies!). Since 1993, she has worked as aclassroom teacher, special educator and coordinator of a gifted and talented program. More recently, Laura was the directress and owner of a Montessori School. Laura lives in St. Johnsbury with her husband Bill. He is a math teacher at the Cabot School and a professional harpist. They have a ten-year-old son, Liam who enjoys soccer, cartooning and Legos. She enjoys spending time with her family exploring the meadows and forests of Northern New England. Wendy Staveseth - Prior to teaching at Monroe, Wendy also lived and taught in small native villages in Alaska and the Yukon Territory for nine years– an experience precipitated by an interest in different cultures, lifestyles, and ideas. One of her greatest inspirations continues to be a former high school teacher, an African American who grew up in the segregated South. His professionalism, stories, and “life lessons” illuminated the profound impact an education can have, and its potential to transform a life. Wendy is also certified as a school media generalist. Jeanne Ward - Jeanne first began teaching at Monroe Consolidated School in 1980. In 1985 she took a 7-year hiatus to raise her daughters and returned to teaching in 1992. This will be her 25th year. Over the years she has taught students in grades 3-6. This year she will be teaching fifth graders. Jeanne enjoys staying current in the field of elementary education and EL in particular by attending workshops, conferences, and seminars. Jeanne and her husband, Denis, live in Monroe and have two adult daughters, a son-in-law, and a three-year old grandson. Jeanne enjoys spending time with her family, visiting historical sites, reading, camping and kayaking, and walking in the woods in all seasons. Louisa Bliss - Louisa Bliss graduated from Colby College with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Spanish. She spent the year following graduation at the North Bennett Street Industrial School learning carpentry and cabinetry skills and later worked as a carpenter in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Louisa returned to school to get her M.Ed. with a concentration in environmental science at Antioch New England. She worked at the Gilman Middle School, the Lancaster School, and has been in Monroe for the past six years, always teaching middle school math and science. Louisa lives on a small farm in Bethlehem, NH with her husband. They have five adult children in various parts of the country. Louisa loves to ride her bicycle through northern New England, hike the White Mountains, run, and Nordic ski. Beth Drolet - Beth Drolet graduated from Ithaca College with a BA in Social Studies Ed. 7-12. From there, she went on to receive her M.Ed. at UNH Durham in Elementary Ed. K-8, as well as Special Ed. K-12. Upon graduation, she taught 5th grade in Derry, NH for two years. She enjoys outdoor activities, with special interests in sailing, water skiing, cycling, and downhill skiing. Beth also enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She lives in Littleton and is excited about all that is happening within the Monroe School Community. She is looking forward to being a part of all of the schools new endeavors as it enters its second year of Expeditionary Learning practices. Along with being the lead humanities teacher, Beth will be coordinating the Special Education accommodations for the 6-8th grade crew. She is really excited about her newest opportunity to teach Integrated Arts, K-8. Jen lives in St. Johnsbury, VT, with her husband-equivalent, one son (while the other is at college), a dog, and two cats. She loves to spend her time outdoors hiking, building things in her yard, swimming, and playing music at farmers' markets. When she has to be inside she likes reading and participating in all sorts of artsy things.
Allie Jette - Technology Integrated Arts/Intervention Specialist. Allie Jette graduated from Keene State College with her BS in Elementary Education and Special Education K-12. She also earned a BA in Theater, Dance & Film from KSC and a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction and Instructional Technology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Allie has taught high school special education in New Hampshire, special education K-2 in Virginia, and middle school special education in Alabama. She moved back to her home state of New Hampshire to join Monroe Consolidated School in 2009. She enjoys a plethora of activities, including downhill skiing, jet skiing, geocaching, reading, hiking, traveling and playing with her two dogs; Honey and Diesel. She looks forward to building a stronger community through Expeditionary Learning and Integrated Arts at MCS this year. Teri graduated from Dallas Baptist University with her Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences degree and is pursuing her Master’s of Curriculum and Instruction through The University of New England. Teri taught Kindergarten and Elementary Special Education in Fort Worth prior to moving to Monroe last year. Teri served as both the Preschool Coordinator for Bethlehem Elementary School and our long-term sub for the librarian position during the 2010-2011 school year. She is certified in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Gifted and Talented and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Teri lives with her husband, Tim, and their three boys in North Monroe. She enjoys reading, quilting, cooking, gardening and singing in her spare time. Tara Fortner - Guidance/ School Psychologist Tara is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist who worked with children and adults with special needs in the state of NY for 11 years prior to moving to NH six years ago. Tara received her BA in Psychology from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, her MA in School Psychology from Alfred University, in Alfred, NY, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Psychology from Alfred University. Currently Tara is working on earning her doctorate in Education from Plymouth State University where she is focusing her studies on effective elementary schools. In addition to working for Monroe Consolidated School Tara is an Adjunct Professor for Springfield College’s, School of Human Services. PAM GAOUETTE - Paraprofessional. Pam is entering her ninth year at the Monroe Consolidated School. In 2003 - 2004 she took the Speech and Language program at the College for Lifelong Learning. KELLY MECKES - Paraprofessional. This is Kelly's ninth year as a paraprofessional at Monroe School. Kelly lives in town with her husband Jim and their three children. She enjoys fishing, reading, scrap booking, quilting, scrap booking and a good movie. One of Kelly's favorite ways to spend an early evening is watching the school kids playing sports (she admits to being the loudest one there!). On my nights off I enjoy going to school sporting events and Lyndon State College Hockey games Kelly has enjoyed seeing the Monroe school children mature over the years, and getting to know their families. For the past 27 years Ms. Wirth has worked in Vermont and New Hampshire in schools and rehabilitation settings with both children and adults. Before moving to the Northeast Kingdom, Ms. Wirth taught English for several years in Brazil. She returned to the U.S. to take further college instruction in Teaching English as a Second Language. The illness of a close relative caused her to explore the field of communication disorders. Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude from Queens College (City of New York), she received the Stewart E. Gilbert Award in Speech Pathology. While living in the New York City area, Ms. Wirth was a clinician (Henry Ittleson Center for Child Research) and adjunct professor (St. Johns University). She moved to the Northeast Kingdom in 1984.

STEVE DAVIE - Custodian. Although foreign-born (NYS), Steve has been a resident of Vermont for over twenty years, and first crossed the river to work at Monroe in June of 2003. He is happily married with three children, aged 17 to 22. The eldest two are currently enrolled in college, and he will happily brag about all three on request. Cindy Guibord - Food Service Director. Cindy is entering her 18th year working at MCS and her fifth year as Food Service Director. Cindy has also driven our children to school for 23 years. Cindy, and her husband Chuck own and operate Gold Star Garage Doors here in Monroe. They have 2 grown children: Justin, and Tori, who along with her daughters Mya and Lexi, live in Monroe. Sandy Lang - Administrative Assistant - Sandy has been the Secretary for Monroe School for over 25 years, and she is also the SAU 77 Secretary. She lives in Monroe with her husband, John. They have 3 grown children: Steven and wife, Susana and daughter, Savannah, Laurie and Patricia. Sandy enjoys sports, reading and visiting with friends. Tom McGuire - District Administrator - Tom is starting his third year at Monroe as the school leader. Tom has been a classroom teacher, a college professor, and a principal and now proudly serves with the finest, most hard-working staff he has had the honor to work beside in over 30 years of education. Tom is eagerly looking forward to this year's maturing of Expeditionary Learning, Responsive Classroom and RTI practices in the school and in the community for the benefit of the children. The staff has accomplished an amazing amount of growth on top of their already considerable strengths. Tom has two daughters who remain a main focus of his love and attention. Tom's out of school interests include travel, sports car racing and riding motorcycles. He is an avid reader and a continuing student of American history and social justice issues. Kevin Fortner - Custodian. Kevin is a native of Western NY where he received his Associates of Occupational Studies degree in Building Trades from Alfred State College. Being a carpenter Kevin excels with building things and fixing things. When Kevin isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his three children, wife, and sisters.
